about us

About Us: Matson Ground

Welcome to Matson Ground – 500 hectares of organic farmland and woodland in the heart of the Lake District National Park, nestled above Windermere. Matson Ground has been owned and managed by the same family for over 100 years.

As you explore you will be surrounded by varied habitats, stunning lake viewpoints, Sites of Special Scientific Interest, holiday cottages, businesses and homes. This is what makes Matson Ground unique; it’s a thriving community for people and nature.

Decisions are made carefully, keeping a sustainable future in mind – the land and animals are stewarded in a nature friendly way, looking after the soil and environment whilst producing a quality food product.

Matson Ground Holidays has five cottages along with our 5-star luxury holiday home, Birkdale House, all surrounded by the peace and quiet of this idyllic rural landscape. A stay in one of our cottages supports conservation and biodiversity projects on the organic farm.
